How debt affects equity valuations in infrastructure

Our quarterly valuation update on debt and equity trends, with a spotlight on why infrastructure valuations need a more nuanced view of debt and the cost of equity.

Webinar · Recording · Presented by Ben Morris · 26 October 2023

This quarterly valuation update looks at trends in debt and equity metrics, relying mainly on publicly available information. For equity, it uses our indices of listed infrastructure funds and listed renewable energy funds.

The spotlight topic this quarter is how debt affects equity valuations in the sector. Traditional valuation theory links more debt to more risk, and so to a higher cost of equity. In infrastructure valuations the approach needs to be more nuanced than that.
