The courses
What runs in Perth
Four courses run in Perth, including the three-day Financial Modelling for Mining Projects, which runs here and nowhere else on the open schedule. Dates above are the source of truth; any course not currently scheduled here can be delivered in house or taken online.
FOUNDATION
Best Practice Project Finance Modelling
Build a project finance model from a blank workbook on our globally proven methodology. Two days, and where most participants begin. Our most attended course.
ADVANCED
Advanced Project Finance Modelling
Take a transaction from screening to financial close: debt sizing and sculpting, covenant monitoring and integrated three-way statements.
CORPORATE
Financial Modelling for Corporate Finance
For finance professionals outside project finance who need robust valuation and investment models: DCF, WACC, terminal value, three-way statements and scenario management.
MINING
Financial Modelling for Mining Projects
Three days on mine-life economics: reserve and production scheduling, price decks, offtake, royalties and the financing structures that follow from them. Runs in Perth and nowhere else on the open schedule.
Practicalities
Where, when and how
In person
Open courses in Perth run from a central CBD venue with full catering. Sessions run 9am to 5pm Perth time over consecutive days, two for most courses and three for Mining Projects. Bring a laptop with a recent version of Excel installed; everything else is provided.
Online
Every course also runs live online over Microsoft Teams, in the same format with the same trainers. The calendar invite shows the start time in your own time zone. Online sessions are interactive rather than recorded: you build the model alongside the trainer and can ask questions as you go.
Pricing and invoicing
Perth courses are priced in Australian dollars, shown on each date above. Booking is online by card; if your organisation needs an invoice and bank transfer, send an enquiry and we will arrange it.
Groups and in-house delivery
Booking three or more people, or want a course delivered at your offices? Any course can be run privately for your team in Perth or anywhere in Australia, built around your own transactions and models. Priced per day rather than per seat, so the economics improve with every additional person in the room.
Your trainers
Taught by practitioners who work on Australian resources and infrastructure transactions
Every trainer on the programme is an active modeller. The people teaching the course are the people who audit and build models for live Australian transactions the rest of the week, including mining, LNG and infrastructure financings in Western Australia.
Alex Portnoy
Partner, Sydney
Alex leads the financial model development team in the APAC region. He has 19 years of financial modelling experience, with a focus on M&A transactions, valuations and corporate and operational business reporting. His experience spans many aspects of a transaction, having worked on the developer, bidder and vendor side of projects. Alex’s recent project sectors include natural resources, energy, utilities and property development.
Joshua Grimm
Director, Singapore
Joshua leads the development and delivery of financial modelling training across Asia. His work covers project finance modelling for large-scale renewable energy, utilities and infrastructure projects, and corporate finance modelling for M&A transactions. He is a committee member of the IPFA Asia Future Leaders Network and hosts the team’s seminars and networking events in Singapore.
Who attends
Built for the Australian market
Western Australia’s deal flow is resources first: mining and critical minerals, LNG and gas, the ports, rail and power that serve them, and increasingly the renewables and hydrogen projects being built alongside. Our Perth courses are structured around Australian lender expectations, and attended by the people financing, developing and advising on those projects.
LENDERS
Banks and resources lenders
Project finance, resources and credit teams who size debt against reserves, price decks and offtake, and need to understand and challenge sponsor models.
SPONSORS
Miners, developers and investors
Mining and critical minerals companies, LNG and energy developers, renewables and hydrogen sponsors, and the funds behind them, building and defending models through to financial close.
ADVISERS
Advisory, engineering and consulting
Financial advisers, mining engineers, geologists and consultants who need to interrogate a model as well as build one.
Beyond training
Model audit, development and advisory for resources and infrastructure
Training is one arm of the practice. Our Australian team also audits, builds and supports the models behind live mining, energy and infrastructure transactions in Western Australia and nationally, partner-led on every engagement, and was part of the practice named Global Model Auditor of the Year at the IJGlobal Awards 2025.

Questions
Frequently asked about our Perth courses
Who are the courses designed for?
A range of experience levels, from analysts building foundational modelling skills through to experienced professionals applying best practice in project finance and infrastructure. Best Practice Project Finance Modelling is where most people begin; Advanced assumes you have completed it or have several years of modelling experience.
What do I need to bring?
A laptop with a recent version of Excel. Course files, materials and catering are provided for in-person courses; online participants receive the files in advance.
Can a course be run for my team in Perth or elsewhere in Australia?
Yes. Any course can be delivered privately at your offices, anywhere in Australia, or online, tailored to your sector, transaction types and internal modelling standards. In-house delivery is priced per day, so it is usually the better option from about six people.
Do you run courses in Sydney, Melbourne or elsewhere?
Yes. Courses also run in Sydney and Melbourne, in Singapore for Asia and in London for Europe, and every course runs live online. See the course schedule for every date and location.
