Bankability and modelling of BESS projects

Our second battery storage webinar answers the questions from the first: debt tenor against asset life, technology obsolescence and BESS bankability.

Webinar · Recording · Presented by Ben Kwan, Hitansh Doda, Shifali Aggarwal and Jean-Marie Verrier · 29 October 2024

The questions from our first BESS webinar

This recording follows our first session, BESS financial models: modelling approaches and common errors. It answers the questions raised there and goes further into financial modelling for battery energy storage systems (BESS): debt tenor against asset life, the risk of technology obsolescence and what makes a BESS project bankable.

The panel covers both debt and equity. Ben Kwan, Hitansh Doda and Shifali Aggarwal of Forvis Mazars are joined by Jean-Marie Verrier of Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation (SMBC Group).

What you will learn

  • How debt and equity are represented and managed in BESS financial models
  • Answers to the questions from the first webinar on battery costs in recent years, augmentation capex and breakeven debt sizing
  • Practical examples and lessons from the panel’s experience of BESS financial modelling
